Topic: Follow the Money: Conducting Financial Investigations in Human Trafficking

Speaker:  Justin Simmons | Assistant United States Attorney

Bio:  Justin Simmons is currently an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas, working out of the United States Attorney’s Office in San Antonio. Since joining the office in December 2020, his duties have included overseeing the Suspicious Activity Report (“SAR”) Review Team. The SAR Review Team is a group of representatives from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that meet once a month to review SARs that have a connection to the San Antonio area. AUSA Simmons then oversees the investigation and conducts the subsequent prosecution of those cases.

Additionally, AUSA Simmons is a member of the South Texas Officers and Prosecutors (“STOP”) Human Trafficking Task Force. The task force is comprised of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and victim assistance providers from a twelve-county region around San Antonio.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, AUSA Simmons was a commercial litigator at a law firm in Frisco, Texas, and, prior to that, was an Assistant District Attorney in Collin County, Texas. Before going to law school, AUSA Simmons spent several years playing professional golf on various mini-tour circuits throughout the country.

AUSA Simmons and his wife have three children and currently live in the San Antonio area.
